Term 1 Week 1 Practice Videos (2013 - 2014)

PRACTICE VIDEO 1

In this video I played the first grade guitar Scales & Arpeggios booklet that Mr. Herry gave. I played G major scale, F major scale, A minor harmonic scale, E minor harmonic scale, G major arpeggio, and E minor arpeggio. It wasn't difficult to learn because I've learned it already, but the arpeggios are sort of new for me to play on the guitar.

PRACTICE VIDEO 2

In this video I played "Rondo in D" by F. Carulli that Mr. John gave us on Wednesday. I only played the Guitar 2. So far I think the song wasn't easy to play because the scale that I had to play in the last part was sort of hard and it was sort of fast as well, so I couldn't keep up with the speed. I'm pretty sure I need more practice, especially focusing on that last part.

Term 1 Week 1 (22 - 24 July 2013)

THEORY

Monday was the first day of school. We had music class right after the orientation, but we only had it for about 20 minutes because the orientation ended at 10 o'clock. In theory class we introduced ourselves: we had to say our full name, nick name, our favorite type of music genre, our favorite musician/artist, our address, our hobby, and one unique thing about ourselves. We didn't do much after that though.
On Tuesday, we only had one music practical session and Mr. Herry said that he wanted it to be an "Ensemble" session, which means we had to bring our instruments and we planned to play the instruments together.
On Wednesday, we had two "tests" we had to do. They were basically reviews from last year about accidentals and things like that. I think I did well because I didn't make any mistakes in both of the tests. Mr. Herry also gave us a booklet on Arpeggios & Scales according to our instrument.

INSTRUMENT

On Monday there wasn't any instrument class because we only had 20 minutes for music class, so we didn't have time for instrument class.
On Tuesday there wasn't any instrument class either because it was an "Ensemble" session.
On Wednesday we started reading the Arpeggios & Scales booklet that Mr. Herry gave us. It wasn't hard for me, but I wasn't fluent in it. Basically, this term we're focusing on sight reading, therefore Mr. John gave us a "Rondo in D" to read. We played the Guitar 2 in class and Mr. John asked us to try and play the Guitar 1 at home, so we can practice.

Monday, June 3, 2013

Term 4 Week 8 (28 - 30 May 2013)

THEORY

On Tuesday, we continued on playing the violin. So far, I think we're doing well because there weren't as much mistakes as the previous music sessions and this time all of the harmonies clicked with each other and I absolutely loved the sound of it. I think what all of us had a challenge in was the transition from pizzicato to arco, vice versa, because they are both different techniques and you have to think and move really quickly so it sounds nice.
On Wednesday, we continued playing the Indonesian Folk Songs medley and also Indonesia Pusaka. I think it was easier for me to play the medley because I remember all of the melody in the medley and I could go through (almost) no problem, but in Indonesia Pusaka, Mr. Herry changed the arrangement a little bit and it was hard for me to adapt to the new arrangement. I think it was because I lacked practice and I didn't really practice much at home because it sounds really loud and I'm scared people would complain about it. But overall, I think the medley and Indonesia Pusaka's harmonies sound good with each other and I'm glad I'm involved with this graduation.
On Thursday, we had the assessment, which was to play the medley, but with the 10th graders. The teachers considered our assessment and rehearsal with the 10th graders as one thing. The 10th graders were there to accompany us in our violin-playing, this was also for their rehearsal. Today was a day before the actual event, and honestly I was very scared for it because I was pretty sure that my violin-playing wasn't that good and I regret not practicing enough, but I couldn't do anything else, other than actually practicing at school.

INSTRUMENT

Overall, I think we spent all of our instrument classes practicing the violin, but on Thursday, at the end of the instrument class, Mr. Herry asked us to write some things in the MDW about our assessment during that day and also the reflection.

Term 4 Week 8 Practice Video 2

In this video, I payed the second part of "Espere Un Momento, Por Favor" by R. E. Garner. I like this part as much as I like the first part (in my previous video) because the rhythm is very different and it sounds really good, even if it's only individual.

Term 4 Week 8 Practice Video 1

In this video, I played "Espere Un Momento, Por Favor" by R. E. Garner from the "Yamaha Classic Guitar Course 1" book. I think this is a really fun song to play because it was different than any other song I have ever played and it also has different dynamics and rhythms. It sounds really good and I really like it.

Term 4 Week 7 Practice Video 2

My Youtube Video

In this video, I played the second guitar for the song "Slide Walts" by H. J. Ellis. This was sort of boring to play because it was just easy chords.

Term 4 Week 7 Practice Video 1

My Youtube Video

In this video I played the same song as I did last week. I did this again for my practice video because I really want to be fluent in this song, therefore I try to practice more. I think I did better in the beginning of the song, but in the middle it was horrible.

Term 4 Week 6 Practice Video 2

My Youtube Video

In this video I played the melody of "Slide Walts" by H. J. Ellis. This is a piece from the Yamaha Classic Guitar Course 1 book. This is originally a duet. I love this song because of its complexity. I love how there's a lot of new techniques that I'm not fluent in yet, like sliding and slurs.

Term 4 Week 6 Practice Video 1

My Youtube Video

In this video I played the role of Guitar II in the song "Polka" by J. Kuffner. Playing this was not hard because there are only chords in this part and even though there is a little bit of plucking, the position was already set so I didn't have to move my fingers and things like that.

Term 4 Week 7 (21 - 23 May 2013)

THEORY

On Tuesday, we continued the MDW. I wasn't able to finish it before lunch time because there was a lot of pages I didn't fill in yet, I was only able to finish one and a half pages.
On Wednesday, Mr. John gave us time to fill in more of the MDW, but in the last 15 minutes of the theory session, he taught us about tempos and beats and he asked every one of us if we could tap the beats according to the actual beats he wrote on the board. I liked learning this because it wasn't that hard and I've learned it before.
On Thursday, we tried to finish the MDW again. Mr. John told us that we have time until next Tuesday. I was very grateful for that because I wasn't done at all, especially the screenshots of the videos and things like that.

INSTRUMENT

On Tuesday, we didn't have instrument class, but instead we practiced playing the violin. Mr. Herry took over the instrument class. He asked us to copy down the melody of "Janger Bali". I think this one is definitely more difficult than "Suwe Ora Jamu" because the melody is faster and there a lot of notes in one bar. It's hard for me to read it fast. For Violin 2, Mr. Herry asked us to play the first three notes in every bar so we can get used to the speed. After that, we did a run-through. And then we combined "Janger Bali" and "Suwe Ora Jamu" and "Janger Bali" again. I love the medley, it sounded really cool.
On Wednesday, we didn't have instrument class and we practiced violin again in the main music class. Today Mr. Herry gave us a new music sheet with the whole medley of the Indonesian folk songs if I'm not mistaken. Playing this was hard because there was a combination of pizzicato and arco and it was hard for me to move on to the next few bars because I have to play the notes well since we're playing in the Grade 12 graduation.
On Thursday, we practiced playing the violin again, but this time Mr. Sadrakh sort of took over. He played the piano while Mr. John played the guitar and Mr. Herry recorded everything. It was very fun because we played the whole thing and it sounded really good with each other. I think I have problems with where to put my finger when I'm supposed to play A1 or D2 and stuff like that.

Term 4 Week 5 Practice Video 2

My Youtube Video

In this video I was playing the role of the Guitar I of the song "Polka" by J. Kuffner. This is originally a duet. I think this song wasn't hard to play because I practiced a lot and I really like it.

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Term 4 Week 5 Practice Video 1

My Youtube Video

In this video, I played "Tango" by J. Ferrer from the Yamaha Classic Guitar Course. This was difficult for me to play because the tempo was confusing me with the 3 notes in one beat. There are also slurs which I'm still kind of not used to. The positions are new to me as well so I have to get used to them and I also have to practice more at home.

Term 4 Week 4 Practice Video 2

My Youtube Video

In this video, I played "Andante" by F. Carulli from the Yamaha Classic Guitar Course 1 Book. I think this was sort of hard to play because of the various intervals and the different positions. I'm very unfamiliar with it, therefore playing a lot of mistakes in the video.

Term 4 Week 4 Practice Video 1

My Youtube Video

In this video, I played "Allegretto" by D. Aguado from the Yamaha Classic Guitar Course 1 Book. Similar like the previous week's video, I think the notes were easy to read, but I have to be careful with the fingers and also the new positions on different strings. I also learned that a note with the lower stem has to be louder than the notes with the upper stem.

Term 4 Week 2 Practice Video 2

My Youtube Video

In this video I played "Melodia" by F. Sor from the Yamaha Classic Guitar Course 1 Book. I think the notes in this song was easy to read and play, but in the book it states which finger I should use (p, i, m, a) which was sort of hard to do.

Term 4 Week 2 Practice Video 1

My Youtube Video

In this video I played "Ballade" from the Yamaha Classic Guitar Course 1 Book. I think I didn't do very well in this video because I know I lacked practice at home.

Term 4 Week 6 (14 - 16 May 2013)

THEORY

On Tuesday, Mr. John was absent so Mr. Herry was the substitute teacher. We listened to the different Jingles our friends made. My group's jingle went first and then after that Mr. Herry asked the others for feedback. Some people said it's catchy, but some didn't. I think all of them said it was very simple, someone said too simple in fact. Some people also think that my group's melody lacks dynamic and it sounds boring, but since it's for an airline commercial (or a commercial in an airplane) I think it's supposed to be soothing and relaxing.
On Wednesday, Mr. John was absent again. We had to continue our MDW so far in the week. After that, Mr. Herry asked us to copy down the melody of "Suwe Ora Jamu" in our music books. Then he asked to borrow the violins and then we started practicing. First, we practiced similar like yesterday; we practiced how to play the A-string, but we also practiced the E, D, and G-string. I had trouble with that because of the same squeaky sound that was produced by my horrible bowing.
On Thursday, we practiced the same thing but this time with variation. We learned how to play argo and pizzicato in the violin. It was very fun to play this because I like learning new things.

INSTRUMENT

On Tuesday, we didn't have instrument class because we still had to discuss the jingles. Right after that, we discussed our new assessment: playing a song with a string instrument, which is the violin. Today we mostly practiced the A-string. I think playing the violin is hard because every time I try to play there's always a squeaky sound.
On Wednesday, we didn't have instrument class because we had to practice our violin-playing. After recess, Mr. Herry divided the parts into Violin 1 and Violin 2. Violin 1 will be played by the ones who take violin instrument class, while Violin 2 will be played by the ones who aren't familiar. So we started and finished the "Suwe Ora Jamu" melody. I think it sounded really good, even though it's not perfect. I should definitely practicing on my bowing, but I don't know how to do that because I don't have a violin at home.
On Thursday, we didn't have instrument class, but we practiced more of the violin again.

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Term 4 Week 1 Practice Video 2

My Practice Video
In this video, I played Bunda again because I know I'm lacking the practice. I think in this video, I did a better job than I did in the previous one because I didn't hesitate as much in this video.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Term 4 Week 5 (7 - 9 May 2013)

THEORY

On Tuesday, we worked on our Finale. I couldn't finish it at home because I couldn't find the time, so I continued it with Eun Joo and Pinka. In the beginning, the measure was 4/4 but in my melody it was supposed to be 3/4 so I had to redo it because I didn't know how to change it. Once I clicked 3/4, it still didn't work, so we decided to do it through Pinka's laptop and it finally worked. After Instrument class, we were still not done, so Pinka took my music book so she could finish it at home.
On Wednesday, there wasn't any music class because we had to attend a seminar.
On Thursday, there wasn't any music class because it was Ascension Day.

INSTRUMENT

On Tuesday, we didn't play any songs, but instead we listened to Mr. John playing the guitar.

Term 4 Week 1 Practice Video 1

In this video, I practiced what Mr. John taught me this week: Bunda. I don't think I'm fluent yet because I know I'm lacking practice, but I will practice more.

Thursday, May 9, 2013

Term 4 Week 4 (30 April - 2 May 2013)

THEORY

On Tuesday, we had the singing assessment. Eun Joo, Pinka, and I were the second group to perform. When it was our turn, I felt very nervous because I was pretty sure that I lacked practice at home, so in the first round I was very unsure of myself and I hesitated a lot, therefore creating a sort of humming noise and it didn't sound good. Mr. John knew what happened and he told us not to be shy and if we made a mistake we should just move on, so he gave us another chance and we definitely sang better compared to the first one, thanks to Mr. John's advice. I'm satisfied because I actually remembered the lower harmonies. Oh and in the end, Pinka decided to the lower harmonies with me because she couldn't reach the higher harmonies, and Mr. John was okay with that.
On Wednesday, we learned about chord progressions. Mr. John showed us different kinds of way to play the chord C and it was very fun to learn. Also, it is very useful in making the jingle since we had to put the chords as well.
On Thursday, I worked on my jingle because my goal this term was to not procrastinate so yeah, I did. It was difficult for me to compose something without playing a musical instrument at the same time, so I decided to go to the piano and write the melody. For today, I've done 8 bars out of 16 bars. I think that's pretty good, considering what I've done last term (which was procrastinate a term long). I think my work's in good progress because I've made the chords along with the notes and I'm quite proud of it.

INSTRUMENT

On Tuesday we didn't have instrument class because we had the singing assessment.
On Wednesday, we didn't have instrument class because we had to continue on learning the chord progressions.
On Thursday, we didn't have instrument class because we had to start on our draft of our jingle.

Term 4 Week 3 (23 - 25 April 2013)

No music class this week because of UN.

Term 4 Week 2 (16 - 18 April 2013)

THEORY

There was no music class on Tuesday because of the UN Tryout.
On Wednesday, we started working on our new assessment: singing an Indonesian song, which in this case, was "Tanah Air" by Ibu Soed. I have loved this song since I was very young, so I had no problems with the lyrics and the melody. Mr. John and Mr. Hary told us that we should sing this with different voices (therefore creating a group), so since I was in a group with Eun Joo and Pinka, Eun Joo sang the normal voice, Pinka sang the higher harmony, while I sang the lower harmony. All of tried to sing the normal one first and then we also tried to sing the higher harmony with Mr. Hary and Mr. John. In my opinion, finding the higher harmony was not hard, but not easy either because when I think I've found the right note, it sounds weird combined with the normal one. I definitely should practice more in finding the different harmonies.
On Thursday, we continued practicing on the singing, but this time instead of the higher harmony, we practiced the lower harmony. Since I had to sing this part, pressure was on me because finding the lower harmony was very difficult and I've always had that struggle. I couldn't have find the lower harmony without Mr. Hary's help, so I thank God for him. To improve, I should practice at home. Today is also the due date of the essay on the topic of how music can influence other people. I sort of liked doing that essay because I love music and it affects me so much, especially my feelings and emotions, etc.

INSTRUMENT

On Wednesday we didn't have instrument class because we had to practice the singing, since next week there is no music class.
On Thursday, we only had a few minutes of instrument class because like yesterday, we spent our time singing. But when I went to instrument class, I still practiced "Tanah Air" with Eun Joo because I was frustrated on not finding the lower harmony.

Friday, April 12, 2013

Term 4 Week 1 (9 - 11 April 2013)

THEORY

On Tuesday, it was our first day of music after we got back from term break. Mr. John gave us our new assessment schedules. If I'm not mistaken, next week is the due date of our research investigation report on how music can influence people. Also after that we have to sing "Tanah Air" for our next assessment. For today, we only discussed the following assessments we're going to have. For this term, I think the assessments are more interesting because we don't have to make a booklet, but an essay instead, which I prefer, of course. The song we're singing for the next assessment is great because I love that song since I was a little kid. We're also making a jingle, which seems like fun, and it's always nice to learn new things, so I'm pretty excited for this term and I hope I'll do great.
On Wednesday, we reviewed on how to transcribe what we hear, but this time we focused more on the chords than on the melody. First, Mr. John tested us with a piano, but then he also tested us with a guitar. I think transcribing the melody is easier than transcribing chords because when you hear a melody it's one note after the next, while in a chord, it's a few notes at once, so it's definitely more difficult for me.
On Thursday, Mr. John gave us a pre-test. I asked what it was for and he said that it was just a revision on what we've learned this past term, also these last few years. Most of the problems were easy, except for one: pentatonic scales. I didn't really understand that, because I learned that since what felt like ages ago, and I'm a person with horrible memory, so I couldn't possibly remember that. After Mr. John told me the notes to the scale, I still didn't quite get the method of what note I should put in because there's no pattern in between the 5 notes.

INSTRUMENT

On Tuesday, Mr. John played a lot of songs for us, including "Goodbye" by Air Supply and "Bunda" by Melly Goeslaw. While Matthew and Darren play "Goodbye", which they played a million times before, I asked Mr. John if he could teach me how to play "Bunda". That song was my favorite song when I was really young and I still love it. I also asked Mr. John how he figured out how to play these songs, and he said to us that we should find the chords first, and then the melody. After we're fluent with both, combine them together to get a nice tone to it. I think this advice was very useful and helpful because it helps me in learning new songs in the future.
On Wednesday, Mr. John was looking for new songs for me to play, but he didn't want to teach me anything from the books he searched in. He did this because in the books, he couldn't find a piece that's classical, mostly pop, and he wants me to play classical songs. So since he couldn't find anything, we decided to play "Bunda" again.
On Thursday, I wanted to review on my playing of "Bunda". Turns out that I did not improve at all. I practiced a little bit, but that's not the only reason. I can't blame my brain, but I do have terrible memory and I can only remember the first verse of the song and not anything else, so that sucks. I really want to try to practice every day and stuff like that but with all of the things going on it's hard for me to spare the time.

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Term 3 Week 3 Practice Video 2

I also played the three sequence of the E minor scale. I think this one was quite confusing because of the rhythm. It sounds sort of weird to me.

Term 3 Week 3 Practice Video 1

We didn't have any instrument class in the third week so I had to do my own thing. In this video I played the three sequence of the G major scale. This helps me stretch my finger.

Term 3 Week 7 Practice Video 2

In this video I played the same thing in the previous video but with an addition of Mr. John's touch of the interesting introduction and ending.

Term 3 Week 7 Practice Video 1

This is a video of me playing the guitar part of my arrangement. I don't think playing this is that hard because they're just chords.

Term 3 Week 4 Practice Video 2

Mr. Sadrakh gave us the music sheet for Katyusha for two voices. In this video I played the second voice. I think this beat sounds more irregular and I like how it sounds like together with the first voice.

Term 3 Week 4 Practice Video 1

In this video, I played Mr. Sadrakh's version of Katyusha. He gave us two sheets of music scores: one for the first voice and the other for the second voice. I played the first voice in this video.

Term 3 Week 2 Practice Video 2

This is me playing Cavatina again. I think I definitely did a better job than before because I felt like I was more familiar with the positions of my fingers.

Monday, March 18, 2013

Term 3 Week 2 Practice Video 1

In this video I played the whole song of Cavatina, the Deer Hunter theme song. Even though I practiced, I don't think I did well because I'm not used to all of the positions yet and the transitions and all that stuff.

Thursday, March 14, 2013

26 - 28 February 2013

THEORY

On Tuesday, we learnt a new topic: tetrachords. Tetrachords are the first or second half of a one octave scale. For example, on the C scale, notes C to F is a lower tetrachord, while notes G to the upper C is an upper tetrachord. I think this method is easier for us to sue when we want to find a sharp and/or flat scale.
On Wednesday we talked more about tetrachords. We also discussed the Singapore trip that's supposed to be scheduled on the first of April. When people found out that I was going to the USA Immersion Program I think they were upset.
On Thursday we discussed again about the Singapore trip. They said that Mr. Tommy wouldn't accept the proposal if less than ten people are coming, so I don't know what's going to happen.

13 March 2013

All we did today was rehearse again with our groups I think my group is doing better which I'm so glad about. We didn't have instrument class because of the rehearsals.

On Tuesday we didn't have music class because of Nyepi.
On Thursday we didn't have music class because of the UN Tryout.

5 - 7 March 2013

THEORY

On Tuesday, we started rehearsing our Katyusha arrangement. Mr. John picked me for the best arrangement in the group so we had to play my arrangement together.
On Wednesday we did our MDW and we had to submit it so Mr. John can check how far we are in the MDW Booklet. We also had to rehearse again in instrument class. Mr. Herry said that we might play our arrangement(s) in one of the grade 9 assemblies.
On Thursday, Mr. John helped us make the arrangement more interesting by making an intro and an ending. He added eight bars for the intro and eight bars for the ending.

19 - 21 February 2013

THEORY

On Tuesday, Mr. John finally gave us the MDW Booklet so we could work on it. Since Darren was absent last week, him and his group had to present today. This was all we did today.
On Wednesday, Mr. Herry asked us to work on our MDW Booklets. If I'm not mistaken, he gave us 15 minutes to work on it and then he wrote the notes of Katyusha onto the board so he could help us with it.
On Thursday, it was the due date for the draft of the Finale. I did it both on the paper Mr. John gave us and I also sent it through Edmodo.

Term 3 Week 1 Practice Video 2

This is the second part of Cavatina, the Deer Hunter Theme Song. I think this one is slightly shorter than the first part of Cavatina. I don't think I did well because I thought this part had more difficult positions.

12 - 14 February 2013

THEORY

On Tuesday, me, Pinka, and Eun Joo discussed and gathered more information for our presentation. Although we discussed deeply, I didn't research much on my part which were audios, famous works, pictures, and the impact on the society.
On Wednesday, Eun Joo didn't come to school because she was sick, so me and Pinka had to discuss alone. Also we got the Katyusha melody from Mr. Sadrakh, both the first and second voice. I played the melody together with Matthew Sebastian: he played the first melody, while I played the second. I thought it sounded really good with each other.
On Thursday, it was the day of the assessment, the presentation on Russian music. I don't think I did well because of how I presented. I stuttered a lot and it was obvious that I was nervous. But thank God I could answer the questions that Mr. Herry asked us.

7 February 2013

THEORY

There weren't any music classes on Tuesday and Wednesday because of the ISA Test.
On Thursday, Mr. John was absent, so Mr. Herry had to substitute for him. We discussed the next assessment we're going to do, which was to arrange the Russian song, Katyusha for 3-4 instruments. He divided the class into two groups, I was with Pinka, Eun Joo, JB, and Nigel. After that Mr. Herry asked the instrument students to tell him their range in the instruments they play. We reviewed on the minor chords we've learned already.

THERE WAS NO INSTRUMENT CLASS

Term 3 Week 1 Practice Video 1

This is the first part of Cavatina, the Deer Hunter Theme Song. I don't think I did that good here because this is my first practice and I'm not fluent yet.

Friday, February 1, 2013

29 - 31 January 2013

THEORY

On Tuesday, when we started class, Mr. John played a song for us: "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles. I was definitely in awe because I absolutely love that song and how Mr. John played it on the guitar sounds exactly like it does in the original song. We talked about the next assessment we're going to have: group presentation on Russian music. Mr. John asked us to group ourselves. I'm in a group with the girls.
On Wednesday, Mr. John asked us to go together with our groups and plan the outline. We have to tell everyone which composers we're going to choose and what comes first, second, third, etc. in the powerpoint presentation, so it's basically a layout/outline. We presented our ideas after lunch since it was a split session, and my group chose Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Modest Mussorgsky, and Alexander Borodin. We also discussed about the 15-page booklet we're going to have to make on a certain Russian composer.
On Thursday, Mr. John talked about the assessment we're going to have after the 15-page booklet which was arranging music for three different instruments. We have to arrange the song "Katyusha" (it's Russian) for three different instruments: guitar, piano, and violin/cello. I have ideas already, sort of, but I'm not sure of them yet. I just hope in the end, my arrangement will sound good.

INSTRUMENT

Since we heard Mr. John play "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" on Tuesday, I wanted to listen to it again. He could play so much more songs than that, and when he played "How Deep Is Your Love" by the BeeGees, me and Darren wanted to learn it, so we started learning it. It was hard for me to remember the notes because all I did was look at him play. It was a challenge for me.
On Wednesday, he decided to write the notes down and I took a picture of it so I could practice at home. I only practiced a little bit because I forgot.
On Thursday we continued with "How Deep Is Your Love" but I couldn't get anything because Mr. John played it so fast.

22 & 23 January 2013

THEORY

On Tuesday, we had to sing the song 'Dark Eyes' for our singing a Russian song assessment. I remembered asking Mr. John to lower the key because the original one was too high for me and when he lowered it, I was definitely surprised that I had to sing it in -6 of the original key. I think I did well because I wasn't nervous, as I'm used to the people I'm performing in front of (I think). I also remembered the lyrics.
On Wednesday, Mr. John gave us our singing scores. He gave me a 10 and I was really happy about that because I didn't expect it :)

INSTRUMENT

I think all I did in instrument class for both days was practicing the "Deer Hunter" song. I think I've definitely made progress, but I'm still not good at it yet.

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

15 & 16 January 2013

THEORY

The first music class started on the first day of school, which was on the 10th of January.
On Tuesday, he told us that we're going to have an assessment next week, which was to sing a Russian song. He gave us two choices of songs: Katyusha and Dark Eyes. I think I'm going to choose Dark Eyes because I think the lyrics are easier to remember but the notes on that song are either really low or really high for me, so I'm not sure yet.
On Wednesday we did vocal warm-ups before trying to sing Dark Eyes with Mr. Hary. I think those warm-ups really helped me. Mr. John asked the class to sing in front together while Mr. Herry records us with his iPad. I think I didn't do well in singing Dark Eyes because I couldn't reach the notes. It was too high for me to reach.

INSTRUMENT

On Tuesday we didn't have instrument class because we had to be familiar with the two Russian songs.
On Wednesday we had instrument class for about 20 minutes and Mr. John gave the guitar class a score for Deer Hunter. The positions are quite hard to pluck because every time I try, there's always a note that goes mute. I should practice during my spare time.
